More Than a Job… Finding Joy Through Service • Risk Resources – December 2024
How is your work environment spreading joy this holiday season?
One of the highest risks yet biggest values of our work is the service to others. Families come to our communities seeking medical, emotional, and physical well-being for loved ones that they can no longer care for themselves. Our workforce is not just filling jobs, they fulfill the needs that families can no longer provide. It's a high calling that so many can testify make it much more than a job.
Connect Work With Joy
The Life Management Partnership emphasizes that joy at work is about being connected with what you do and why you do it. It’s the feeling of success and fulfillment that comes from doing work that matters. It’s finding your “why?”
What better type of work is there than finding joy while serving others?
Give Purpose To Your Parties
The holidays are the perfect time to promote the joy of service. As you gather with your teams be intentional. Highlight moments of joy at work. Seek connection with your peers and workforce.
Think through “what have we done this year?”.
Highlight the little things, not just big things.
What Are The Special Moments That Enhanced Lives?
- Those extra three walks around the building to calm an anxious resident.
- The smiles on faces enjoying music activities or getting a favorite piece of birthday cake.
- The grandchild running down the hall to visit a grandparent.
Ask employees to share moments that made their day special or significant this year. They’re good reminders of why we come to work every day and celebrate the season.
Create Connection Through Your Parties
Use the time to find out what's important in the lives of your team.
What are their favorite traditions? Inquire on the recipe they've shared at the employee potluck.
Make it a point to sit with an employee you don’t typically have the opportunity to connect. Ask about their kids, gift traditions, or holiday activity.
Whatever the approach, be intentional with creating connection and sharing value. Take the time to have FUN and create space for JOY.
Happy Holidays,
The HRS/PHIG Team
